Photographing a royal visit
While I spend happy hours photographing weddings and elopements on Skye I also photograph events that happen on our beautiful island; film premieres, corporate events, music gigs, dance performances and just once a Royal visit. Not long after we re-opened our doors to travel and visitors from the United Kingdom and around the world Prince Charles visited the Dunvegan Castle Isle of Skye one sunny autumn day.
I had the fascinating role of documenting his visit to Dunvegan Castle. It was so interesting to see the prep work that had preceded the visit and the security processes that are integral part of any public appearance by members of the Royal family. It was also lovely to see the delight on the faces of surprised visitors to the castle gardens who had been told that “it might be worth sticking around for a few minutes” as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay toured the gardens, chatting with visitors and staff.
Following the tour of the gardens and the long chat that Prince Charles enjoyed with the former head gardener the Royal couple were entertained over a light lunch by musicians from Sabhal Mor Ostaig before signing the visitors book and then presenting an MBE to a wonderful local lady.
