The Isle of Skye, with its rugged landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and ethereal misty hills, is a photographer’s paradise. Its unique blend of natural elements offers an unparalleled backdrop for creating breathtaking imagery. However, capturing the essence of Skye’s beauty requires more than just a camera—it demands an understanding of its ever-changing light conditions and the ability to work harmoniously with its landscapes.

In this article, we’ll explore how you can harness the magic of Skye’s golden light and misty hills to create spectacular photographs by enlisting the services of a skilled photographer who knows the island like the back of their hand.

Elysha and Jackson had one day on Skye for their dream pre-wedding adventure shoot – so we combined this with a tour of Skye. Growing up on Skye and photographing here for over a decade I know when to visit the big sites and where and how to escape the crowds to tucked away undiscovered corners of Skye. I created a day tour that began with coffee at Birch in Portree, a hike up to the Old Man of Storr, and looking for dinosaur footprints on Staffin beach. Then we headed for the divine Hungry Gull where the couple tried black pudding and haggis for lunch. During the afternoon we visited the Quiraing, a secret waterfall in a hidden glen, and the Fairy Pools. Visiting there in late afternoon gave us spectacular golden hour light with beautiful bonus rainbows.

Here’s what the couple had to say:

“There are so many options on Skye for photography, but you REALLY only need Rosie. We were there to get our engagement photos done and had spoken to plenty of photographers, but Rosie stuck out in a good way because she had the most amazing personality and energy. Leading up to the photos, she was on top of everything. We had some locations we wanted to get photos at and she was able to create a literary to hit every one of those stops as well as her own personal recommendations. She kept up with the weather and adjusted the itinerary to make sure we would get the best photos at each location. Some of the best food we ever had was through her recommendation right there on Skye. When we first met up you could really feel her excitement and energy. Spending the day with Rosie felt more like hanging out with a friend rather than just being there for business which we really appreciated. She was extremely accommodating, helped us at every single step of the way, and so knowledgable about the area. We mentioned to her that I am a huge fan of waterfalls and she managed to cram in a couple of quick stops so we can see some of the amazing waterfalls. Even with extra stops and me stopping here and there to get photos of the amazing landscape, we did not feel rushed at all. She was so attentive and patient every step of the way and we can’t thank her enough for that. The final photos that we received were spectacular as well. They really captured us and the amazing scenery while getting rid of our awkwardness. These photos are a great memory of Skye and the great day we had with Rosie. She also has great taste in food. We were lucky enough to go to every place that she recommend during our trip and our outlook on food had changed forever.”
