Wild and romantic elopement and wedding photography on the Isle of Skye For those who adventure

Summer Family photoshoot Isle of Skye | Love Skye Photography

There is something incredibly special about summer mornings on the Isle of Skye. Before the island fully wakes, the light is soft and clear, the air feels fresh and full of possibility, and the landscape belongs to you. This beautiful family session was everything I love about photographing families here at home — relaxed, playful, and deeply connected to place.

A Summer Family Photoshoot on the Isle of Skye

We met early, while the light was still gentle over the Cuillin ridge. The sky held that delicate summer glow Skye does so well — bright but never harsh — and the water shimmered quietly as the children tiptoed in before bursting into laughter. That’s the magic of choosing the right location on Skye: space to breathe, to explore, and to simply be together.

Ashley styled the session so beautifully. Her vision felt effortless — soft neutrals, flowing dresses for the girls, gentle textures that moved with the breeze, and tones that echoed the landscape around us. Everything felt cohesive. It allowed the focus to remain exactly where it should be — on connection, on joy, on those fleeting childhood moments.

One of the things I always encourage during family sessions is freedom. The children ran through the water, splashed wildly, and ran along the riverside paths. They weren’t asked to stand still for long. Instead, we created space for play. And within that play came the most natural images — windswept hair, spontaneous giggles, hands instinctively reaching for Mum and Dad.

Playful, Natural & Full of Connection

Of course, we paused gently throughout to create beautiful family group portraits. Those timeless images where everyone is together, grounded in the landscape. We captured the full family framed by Skye’s dramatic backdrop, then smaller groupings — siblings side by side, arms wrapped tight.

I always make time for individual portraits too. Each child had their own moment in the light — space to shine, to be seen just as they are at this exact age. Those portraits often become the ones parents treasure deeply years from now.

And then, very importantly, time for Mum and Dad. It’s so easy for parents to fade into the background during family life. But these photographs are part of their story too. A few quiet moments together, standing in the soft morning light while the children explored nearby — simple, honest, connected.

This is what a summer family session on Skye can be. Unhurried. Art-led but full of heart. Rooted in landscape and memory. A morning that feels like an adventure, and photographs that hold onto that feeling long after little feet have grown.
