Wild and Romantic
2018 could not have been a more wild and romantic year for the couples I worked with who eloped to the Isle of Skye. From across the world, especially Canadian and Australian brides found the lure of eloping far away to our tiny Scottish island irresistible. Each elopement day on the Isle of Skye was so different and reflected the personalities of these adventurous couples but also incorporated challenges, hikes, freezing snowfall and the brightest of Scottish summer days. We climbed cliffs, set sail on the waters around Skye, sought out hidden beaches and ruined castles, climbed the ramparts of Eilean Donan Castle. From the highlights of the Quiraing at dawn and sunset at the Fairy Pools to day long trips into the heart of the Cuillin to celebrate by Loch Coruisk and the astounding experience of a wedding (thought to be the first in at least 150 years) on the uninhabited island of Isay each elopement wedding day brought new discoveries, astonishing scenery and wildlife and I revelled in the light and the landscapes while creating “just one more” image.
While Skye is not a deserted island we always seek out the quieter spots and the times of day that attract the best light and the least fellow visitors (although I can’t guarantee there won’t be an attack of the midges between May and September!) and when we do meet other hikers while clambering around the Fairy Pools or taking in the views at Loch Coruisk they are always polite and keen to congratulate you while keeping a respectful distance. The same cannot be said of the wildlife who like to show off for the camera at every opportunity. This year dolphins, basking sharks, seals, a vast array of birds, sheep and cows have all made their way into brides and grooms albums while many couples have chosen to bring their dogs with them. I couldn’t be happier with the challenges these friendly photo bombers present photographically!
Here are a few Isle of Skye wedding images that leapt out at me while scrolling back through 2018 – a slideshow at the foot of the blog shares even more!
