This elopement to the Isle of Rona, Isle of Skye was something of an unusual event. With a permanent population of just 4 the beautiful Isle of Rona, off Skye’s east coast, doesn’t see many weddings! There have been just a handful of weddings held on the island in the past two years since easy access has been opened up sailing on the luxury catamaran Seaflower Skye from Portree harbour.

When I first spoke with Victoria and Gary we discussed many different options for their tiny intimate Isle of Skye elopement. Based at the wonderful Three Chimneys they were wonderfully open to suggestions as to location. Chatting over a virtual coffee I discovered that they are passionate about wildlife and in particular bird spotting and that when the suggestion of the beautiful sea crossing to Rona was made.

Not only does the trip ensure utter privacy for your elopement along with a divine seafood lunch there is also the pleasure of sailing with Ewen and Janice who unreservedly share their passion for the area and the islands and are the most delightful hosts for a wedding day. I was also hoping that the dolphins that so often seem to appear on their trips would play. On the day we were surrounded by an enormous pod of dolphins that had us all shrieking with delight on the sailing over to Rona. There, Alyson Stewart conducted a beautiful humanist ceremony at the harbour beach before we all headed back to the boat to enjoy fizz and seafood.

The utter highlight of the day for Gary (aside from marrying the beautiful Victoria) was an encounter with a sea eagle as we sailed back to Portree in the late afternoon.
