Wild and romantic elopement and wedding photography on the Isle of Skye For those who adventure

Humanist woodland wedding ceremony Knoydart

It’s no secret that one of my favourite places on the West coast is the beautiful and remote community of Knoydart. Although I can see the village of Inverie from Skye the trip there involves 2 ferries and at least one trip in a vintage land rover. Being the Knoydart wedding photographer is something of a priviledge and one that I treasure. When Suzi and Mark asked me to photograph their day I knew it would be memorable.

Waiting in Mallaig for the Western Isles ferry to sail me to Inverie brings such a sense of anticpation as I take in the bustle of the harbour and indulge in a little street photography amongst the tourists and fishermen who throng the quayside in summer. All that changes as we set sail for Knoydart and away from the maddening crowds and routines of city life.

Knoydart has a population of around 120 scattered along the most beautiful coastline and when I am there to photograph a wedding it feels like almost everyone has a part to play in making the wedding perfect for the bride and groom and their guests. From catering to piping to emergency wedding limo – there was always someone there to help – the day even saw me multi tasking and borrowing a land rover to drive the band and their kit from the pier to the hall.

Suzi and Mark chose a woodland wedding ceremony  – the setting was just beautiful  – although the midges did rather feast on the guests when Suzi was fashionably late! After the ceremony we headed to Long Beach for photographs before returning to Knoydart Hall where family and friends had prepared a fabulous feast before ceilidhing the night away in flying style. At the end of the day the whole party strolled to the pier where lanterns drifted out over the sea (all later collected and accounted for by the wedding party) as the last colours of the beautiful sunset faded away.
